Swallows Day Parade

Last Saturday, March 29th I had the opportunity to walk in the San Juan Capistrano Swallows Day Parade. We were re-creating the Mormon Battalion of the Army of the West. It was a really cool experience because we walked where the Battalion actully walked. They helped establish trails into California (creating the first Wagon Trail) and they did a lot to help the small communities, especially out here in South Orange County. Pretty cool! I didn't realize when I volunteered, but we were actually fulfilling Brigham Young's prophecy that the Mormon Battalion "will be held in honorable remembrance for ever and ever." I have to admit it was an awesome experience. I wish that I hadn't been so cranky due to the fact that we were standing around for hours, walked a mile in the Parade, and very sick. I would have never survived as an actual Pioneer...they were made of tougher stuff, that's for sure.

I didn't know this eaither, but the parade in San Juan is actually the largest non-motorized Parade in the NATION! There were so many horses! There were a ton of people there and it was televised several times! You learn something new every day!

Nice dress! Did you weave the material and make it yourself? Cody would be so proud!
