I finally saw Wicked!

Christa organized a fun trip for us to all go see Wicked today. Most of them had already seen it, but there were a few of us "newbs" seeing it for the first time. It was brilliant! 98% of people are not wrong...you must see it...very enjoyable!

Lately (and by lately, I mean for the last 2 years), I cry at the drop of a hat. There was one scene where Elphaba is touched when she receives a gift from Glinda and wears the black hat to a dance, where everyone laughs at her. Everyone in the theatre was laughing, because Elphaba turns it into a funny moment by dancing by herself, trying to save face, but I was crying because it was so sad to me! Luckily, my friends didn't notice...I hope!

My hat is off to the writer of the play...she did an amazing job of weaving this fantasy into the story from the movie "The Wizard of Oz." It makes me love the movie so much more, because now I feel like I understand the characters so much more, even though it's all made up. She did such a great job. The actresses who played the witches were so great! I want to be Elphaba for Halloween! She was my favorite. Glinda was very funny, very Molly Shannon-esque (Mary Catherine Gallagher, but prettier :). I simply loved it!

Very cool graphic for the play

We saw it in NYC a few years ago. I thought it was a fun play. It wasn't the most memorable play I've ever seen on Broadway, for some reason, but it was a good experience.

    Yeah, I lack whimsy.

I actually think the play is based off the book "Wicked" and not the "Wizard of Oz." My sister and I tried reading the book and it's pretty horrible. I've never seen the play but Melissa did and she it the play is very "Disney-ed up."

Tricia, you are right. The book is actually very political and a lot of people really hate it. Many people were surprised when it was made into such a fanstastical play.

I realized that this is another instance of me being disappointed by all the hype. I liked the play, but I didn't LOVE it. It had been talked up SO much to me, that it really had nowhere to go but down.

It's definitely fun, but I had no interest in buying the CD or really ever seeing it again.

I loved every minute of the show as well! And FYI- there were a few parts that got me a little emotional too. :) It was just so fabulous!

I had no idea there was a book. I guess I just assumed it was just a play based on the plot of the movie. Oops!

I've seen clips from Broadway, and of course have heard the songs. I think they took themselves too seriously. My uneducated decision is that the LA production was better. :)

Callie - we ate at different places. I ate at Moishes. I'll look for Magee's next time I'm there!

    Wicked this!

Just kidding. I guess I'm the last person on earth who hasn't seen it, so I let that bitterness come out. Please, forgive the outburst. I truly am glad you had fun, while having an emotional purging session at the same time. Best of both worlds!

I'm glad you've finally seen it, what a great trip to go with everyone. I've seen it twice and would love to see it again. I loved it so much because it was really funny, and the songs were amazing. That's why it's a hit in my books! Have you seen Phantom on Broadway? That's incredible too - a classic and a must see on the stage.

I saw it for the first time a week earlier on Broadway. Some friends and I won the lottery and got to see it from the front row. We all loved it.

FIRST ROW! No fair! That is so awesome! I've never been to Broadway.

I saw Phantom, but also at the Pantages. I guess I'm just a West Coast kind of girl. :)
