I love the Antelope Valley, especially Palmdale. Yeah, I loved Orange County too, but it's soooo expensive there. I think the AV is beautiful, especially our deserts.
As my dear readers know, I am currently unemployed, and so is Cody. I had an interview this week, but the pay was ridiculously low, and it was in a very shady area, so I had to decline. Cody is in school full-time, so he stays busy with that and has not yet found a suitable part-time job. We're doing fine thanks to the low rent at my parents :), but we can't splurge or treat ourselves like we used to. It's hard to think of inexpensive, fun things to do.
I am a homebody and can always find something to do (like working on thank-you cards!), but Cody needs some action. He wants to get out of the house and move around. He really wanted to go to Best Buy to check out the new LCD tvs. So, we walked there. It was a nice walk through the desert over to a big shopping center...only takes about 20 minutes. It's a beautiful day. We looked at TVs and gaming systems. The new LCD tvs are really thin and have great picture quality, but they are so expensive. I convinced Cody to let me buy Twilight. We are saving for Hawaii, but we all know I'm going to buy Twilight at some point, so he reluctantly gave in. It was on sale for $17 for the Special Edition. At the check-out, he's still questioning the purchase, so I jokingly say, "How about we get it on blu-ray instead?" He immediately agrees that's a great idea and so I get it and we spend $25 instead of $17, and he's very happy. Men do not make sense! :) Luckily we live at my dad's, who has a blu-ray player and a huge tv with surround sound, so it'll be fun to watch. For the fourth time. :)
Afterwards, we wandered around the shopping center and read for a bit at Barnes & Noble (for free!). We hit Baja Fresh, ate half our burritos and saved half for dinner, and then strolled back to the house. It was a nice afternoon, we got some nice exercise and distraction, and it was pretty inexpensive. $25 for a dvd *ahem* blu-ray or whatever, that I will enjoy many times, $15 for lunch and dinner, and some nice exercise and time well spent with Cody. Thank goodness blogging is free! :) I think I'm getting good at being a "recessionista". It's been a nice day.

Adam and I will often go on dates to walmart and just walk around looking at things. This can be dangerous because like cody adam will see high tech gadgets or dvds-blue rays-and want to spend more money just because it's high tech. men...you're right they don't make sense. I can't figure out why adam tempts himself by looking at the things he knows we can't afford...tv's, computers..the like. but we love them none the less...yay for a fun day with the hubby...keep it up. :)

I love Palmdale as well. My favorite is the sky. Stars people on the southern side of the mountain can't see. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets can't be beat. Not to mention that Cody has never had major asthma since we moved the Palmdale. What a relief that was for me. Nope can't beat Palmdale.
I never understood men logic either but I'd love to see it on blu-ray myself! (A little jealousy there.) - March 28, 2009 at 10:15 PM
